NOC Engineer

Description
The Network operations Center manages our clients customer applications hosted at various co-location facilities. Infrastructure design, capacity planning, security, deployment and systems monitoring all fall within the mission of the NOC as does responding to 3rd level customer support cases.

Responsibilities:
Learn and master deployment and operational details of product releases.
Participate in system setup, migration and capacity planning tasks. Deploy upgrades, updates, and other necessary changes to production systems. Provide third level support for the product suite. Perform maintenance tasks on network, operating systems, databases, servers, etc. Recreate production problems, identify software defects and interface with development staff to resolve. Document outages, cases and software defects in appropriate tracking systems. Contribute written documents to knowledgebase for internal and external consumption. Participate in on-call after hours support rotation schedule. Work independently, using good judgment, tact and discretion.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work and thrive under pressure where failure to perform could result in high financial loss for our customers.
The demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems while on-call.
Detail oriented. Comfortable working within defined processes and able to develop new processes where needed.
Self-motivated, and able to work with minimal direction.
Demonstrated experience working in a production operations environment.
Experience in the deployment, management, and maintenance of highly available enterprise applications.
Excellent customer service skills.

Basic Solaris or Linux system administration skills with at least 4 years of experience administering these systems.
Skilled in the use of Shell and PERL to complete administrative tasks.
Familiar with the usage of the Windows 2003 Server operating system.

Experience in any of the following a plus:
Java or Python programming.
Deployment, use, and extension of monitoring applications like Big Brother or Nagios.
Webmin or Usermin administrative tools.
Administering Windows 2003 Server.
High-availability deployments.
Database Development or Administration.


Strong Oracle and SQL experience. The demonstrated ability to develop and tune complex SQL queries to perform reporting and administrative tasks using the Oracle 10g RDBMS.
Experience in PL/SQL programming and/or administering or monitoring Oracle installations a plus.

Experience with deployment, use, and administration of Weblogic or competing Java application server in a multi-tiered configuration.
Background in administration of Web servers including SSL, virtual hosting, URL rewriting/redirecting, etc.

Candidates with additional experience monitoring or scripting the use of these applications will be favorably reviewed.
Mastery of TCP/IP fundamentals.
Experience troubleshooting networking issues.
Clear understanding of the operation, configuration, and management of popular Firewall solutions.
Demonstrated ability to setup and administer a VPN using popular VPN solutions.
A demonstrated understanding of NAT and PAT.
A demonstrated understanding of routing protocols.
Mastery of commonly used transfer protocols such as FTP, FTPS, and SFTP.
Background using F5 BigIP or other load balancers a plus.
Experience with intrusion detection solutions and techniques.

CISSP or similar certification.
Experience with server hardening for Solaris 8, Solaris 10, or Windows 2003 Servers.
Experience working in a SAS70 Level II environment.
Experience with penetration testing or intrusion detection.

Proficiency with SQL and experience with Oracle.
Experience administering Java applications, Java web applications, and Java application servers such as Tomcat, WebLogic, or Websphere.
Expertise in TCP/IP networking.
Working knowledge of HTML, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH, DNS, etc.
Experience managing firewalls, loadbalancers, proxy servers, etc.
Web server administration experience.
Background in Unix administration, including shell scripting, etc.
Administrative knowledge of Windows 2000/XP.
Must be proactive, and be able to preemptively plan for, and address issues.
Experience working with development and QA staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have time-management skills and the discipline to effectively execute multiple assignments simultaneously.
Must be able to solve real problems, and unafraid of learning new things quickly.
Must be able to think clearly in stressful situations.
Five to 10 years of applicable work experience.
College degree, preferably in science, math, or related technical area.
